Structuring Time

Using your best mental energy wisely

Today was a weird day of transition. I moved into a new apartment, and had lots of unexpected time-sucks. I chose to spend the morning moving so I would have the rest of the day to unpack. Not a bad idea, except that my morning is typically my best time to practice because I have the best ability to focus (this makes me want to learn how to "center" quicker). I realized my potential mistake about 10:30 this morning when I hadn't warmed up yet.

Giving myself grace in times of transition is needed. Yes, I needed to move in, and I chose to do that today. Being settled is a crucial aspect of doing some of my best work. I function well on a routine. This makes me think of the idea of quality over quantity. Sometimes we do need to just drag ourselves to the practice room, but ideally we will be smart and organize our day so that we practice when we are most mentally engaged. Currently it's about 3:30pm, and I've practiced about an hour. Time to get back to the practice room, and summon some energy. I'm glad I don't have to do this life alone.
